About Johnathan

Chief Executive Officer Johnathan Paul is a writer, director, producer and artist. He began working as a professional illustrator and concept artist in early 2000. Mr. Paul studied Fine Arts through the acclaimed College of Visual Arts and Design at the University of North Texas. While at CVAD the young artist focused on traditional art forms such as illustration and painting, however he also had a dual focus on New Media Arts which included experimental film and 3D animation.

In 2004 Mr. Paul and fellow University of North Texas Alumni Marcus Parkhill formed Imagineer Entertainment with the focus of offering pre-visualization services to filmmakers. While trying to establish the newly founded production company on the side Mr. Paul successfully worked as a Marketing Executive for Fortune 500 company Toll Brothers Inc. until 2010.

By 2013 Mr. Paul and Mr. Parkhill were joined by two additional UNT Alumni in Andrew Dunn and Ethan Shirey, from here Imagineer was rebranded and re-conceptualized as a full scale production house now known as Datalus Pictures.

Mr. Paul returned to North Texas to earn his Master’s Degree in Film Production through the Media Arts Department, once known as the famed Radio, Television and Film Department. In 2014 he directed his first feature length documentary film Unconventional, then followed this up by directing two short films One Autumn Night and The Fields Where We Play. In 2015 he directed the controversial documentary film Hustler of Providence, which would be short listed for the Oscar ™ Qualifying Short Film Award at the Rhode Island International Film Festival. For his work on this film he also received nominations for the Kodak Eastman Filmmaker Award, the International Documentary Association David L. Wolper Award, and the BEA Documentary Filmmaker Award.

Johnathan is currently slated to direct the documentary film The Great Hanging as well as the short proof of concept film Restraint in 2016.

As the Chief Executive Officer Mr. Paul oversees the overarching creative vision of Datalus Pictures.
