LUCA

LUCA
By Joseph Murkijanian

GENRE: Science Fiction, Drama
LOGLINE:

A desperate immunologist racing to cure her dying daughter discovers that LUCA—the ancient origin of life—still lives inside every human… and it’s waking up.

SYNOPSIS:

Four billion years ago, life began with a single organizing principle. It never left.

Dr. Elena Voss, a world-class immunologist, has spent years fighting a losing war inside her own home—her eleven-year-old daughter Lila is dying from a relentless autoimmune disorder. Every day is managed, measured, controlled. Until suddenly… it stops.

Lila isn’t sick anymore.

At the same time, across the world, something impossible is happening. Transplant patients don’t reject new organs—they simply ignore them. Pregnant women’s bodies stop recognizing their own children. Healthy systems begin to separate, quietly, politely… as if life itself is withdrawing from the rules it once followed.

What Elena discovers is not a virus, not a mutation, not an invasion—but something far older: a buried biological “preference” awakening inside every living cell. A force that predates evolution itself. And it’s changing the fundamental contract of life—eliminating conflict, dissolving individuality, and guiding humanity toward a new, unified state of existence.

For the first time in her life, Lila is thriving. Strong. Clear. Connected to something vast and unknowable. But as the transformation accelerates, Elena realizes the truth: her daughter isn’t being cured—she’s becoming something else. Something beyond human.

With time running out and society quietly unraveling, Elena is drawn to a reclusive scientist who has been tracking this phenomenon for years. Together, they uncover a last-resort solution: a global “reset” that could stop the transformation—but at a devastating cost. It would erase what the world is becoming… and kill everyone already touched by it.

Including Lila.

As humanity stands on the brink of its next evolution, Elena faces an impossible choice: preserve the flawed, fragile world we know… or allow something ancient, peaceful, and irreversible to take its place.

Because this time, survival isn’t the question.

It’s whether we deserve to.

Hey, just read LUCA really cool concept.

I like how the “threat” isn’t external but something already inside us, and the whole idea of healing vs losing individuality is super compelling. The daughter angle especially adds real emotional weight.

Only thing I’d say is maybe push the escalation a bit more early on make the global changes feel more immediate and unsettling.
