Film Composer Marcello De Francisci's Bio:

Marcello De Francisci is an American composer with an Italian-Argentinean background born to a father who was an international sales manager for a company based in the U.S. As a result of his father’s work Marcello spent most of his early life traveling and living abroad in countries throughout South America, the Caribbean, Canada, all across the U.S., North Africa, and Spain. During the summers while living in the southern region of Spain, Marcello would venture across the straits of Gibraltar to Northern Morocco where he would immerse himself in the culture of this historic place. These journeys and experiences were the building blocks of his temperament as an artist as well as the foundation to an extensive musical palette he currently brings to the motion picture industry today.

In 1993 he decided to go to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a film composer. It took about a year and a half for him to acquaint himself with the city and it was during this period that he landed an internship in what was then known as Media Ventures – a Santa Monica based facility owned by world renowned film composer Hans Zimmer. During his two year involvement there he had the opportunity to assist on multiple, reputable film projects and was exposed to the work of composers like Mark Mancina, Harry Gregson-Williams, John Powell, Roy Hay, John Van Tongeren and Jeff Rona.

In October of 2003 Marcello found the means to pursue a solo career as a film composer. His first major break appeared when the head of music at ESPN responded to numerous calls made by Marcello and offered him a project to compose and produce music for the network coverage of the 2004 World Figure Skating competitions. During this time he started doing movie scores for independent films and worked with multiple production music libraries as well. His music was used on numerous motion picture trailer advertising campaigns and his work started to pick up a bit of steam. In 2006 he won the best soundtrack of the year G.A.N.G. ward for his work on SCEA’s “God of War” game. Two years later he partnered up with Golden Globe winner and Academy Award nominee singer/composer Lisa Gerrard (Dead Can Dance) who scored films like “Gladiator” (alongside Hans Zimmer) for director Ridley Scott, “Heat”, “The Insider”, “Ali”, for director Michael Mann and “Whalerider” to name a few. For a long time Marcello had admired Lisa Gerrard’s work and this was a dream come true in his career and life as an artist in general. This relationship opened doors that provided him the opportunity to co-create and produce an album with Lisa titled “Departum” furthermore was invited to work on multiple film projects like “Balibo”, “Oranges & Sunshine” for Icon Productions starring Emily Watson & Hugo Weaving, “Burning Man”, “Insight”, “Tears of Gaza”, and last but not least “Samsara” the anticipated sequel to the renowned film “Baraka”. Lisa Gerrard as a result of her collaboration with Marcello won two soundtrack of the year APRA Awards and both Marcello and Lisa won two Australian Film Critic’s Circle Awards for their work on “Balibo” and “Oranges & Sunshine”. Marcello’s latest collaborative soundtrack score effort with Lisa Gerrard has been for “Jane Got A Gun”, a Weinstein Company twenty five million dollar film starring Natalie Portman and Ewan McGregor. The film was directed by Gavin O’Connor and it’s Natalie Portman’s first western genre film project, co-produced by her furthermore first acting reunion with Ewan McGregor since their work on “Star Wars”.

Aside from working on film projects Marcello has been developing a music library of Epic-Orchestral, Percussive, Choral tracks for licensing use in motion picture trailers, television promos, video games and commercials through his newly formed company “10,000 Watts of Iron | A Music Company” .
