GENRE: Sci-fi
LOGLINE:

After becoming paralyzed from a car accident, a man acquires the ability to walk into the afterlife and back.

SYNOPSIS:

On the drive back from his daughter’s piano recital, JOSH TOBIN (30s) gets struck by a truck. As Josh fades into unconsciousness, he hears whispers – hundreds, sublime, unintelligible, random, from all directions. He finds himself in a dark tunnel, where a bright whiteness appears.

In the brightness, there’s a silhouette of a young girl. Josh approaches her. It’s his daughter TASHA (10). She grabs his hand and they walk into the light. Soon afterwards, Josh walks back alone into the dark tunnel. Now red lights twirl in the dark. As Josh blinks, he sees an EMT with paddles in his hand.

In the hospital, Josh learns that his wife LESLIE (30s) and daughter died from the accident. Anguish, despair, pain race across his face. To make things worse, the DOCTOR (50s) tells Josh that he’s now a paraplegic. Later that day, FATHER TIMMONS (30s), unconventional, salty, cynical, comes to see Josh. His sarcastic view of life and religion takes Josh by surprise.

Meanwhile, BEVERLY CARLSON (40s) looks through wedding renderings with her WEDDING PLANNER (20s). Later, Beverly meets up with her friend NATALIE (30s). Beverly’s expression turns somber when she sees the WAITER’s name tag – “Mark Dresser.” At home, Beverly’s emotions swirl. She goes to the closet and gets out a photo of her smitten with MARK DRESSER (40s), who years ago left her suddenly without explanation.

As Josh falls asleep at the hospital, he hears whispers – hundreds, sublime. On voice stands out. A man’s voice. He says, “Josh, Josh. Please help me. I’m nearby. Ask for me. I’m Mark Dresser.” That wakes up Josh.

In the morning, Josh mentions to the doctor that he heard voices, a guy named Mark Dresser. Curiosity and disbelief fill the doctor’s expression. “Mark’s been in a coma for over a week,” the doctor explains. Josh asks to see him. The doctor takes Josh in a wheelchair to see Mark, unconscious, still, breathing with help from a ventilator. The doctor leaves Josh for a little to attend to another patient. Josh touches Mark’s hand and he finds himself in a hospital hallway standing up. Quiet, eerie, desolate. Mark is there waiting for Josh. Josh can’t make sense of what’s happening. Mark explains to Josh that he is a walker (able to walk into the afterlife and back). Mark pleads Josh to get Beverly, that he wants to see her before he dies.

Will Josh get Beverly? Will Beverly agree to see Mark? Will it happen in time? And so the story unfolds…
