About Kimberly

Kim Contreras was born and raised in Puerto Rico. It was at a young age that she started showing interest in performing arts. As a teenager, this interest led her to be offered an acting position in the theater company Act 3, where she performed for five years. While there, she had the opportunity to be a stage manager on many productions. This is when she discovered her true passion for producing and creating stories. When she graduated high school, without ever having a camera on hands or any experience with digital filmmaking, she moved to Miami to pursue a career in film. She began her studies at the Miami International University of Art & Design. Living and studying in Miami provided a strong foundation, taught her what independence truly meant, and how the narrative of life can change in a heartbeat. However, she felt a need to move to another place which held even more of an opportunity.

While studying Digital Filmmaking and Video Production at The Art Institute of California - Orange County, Kim learned to make films showing the organic nature and the diversity of the human condition. Human psychology is her muse. Although she has shown fantasy in her films, she feels there is always a story or character that society can relate to in her work. For example, her short film Between Shadows reveals elements in the story arc about the human condition. What motivates the two main characters, either negatively or positively? Why do they make the choices they make? What makes them feel hate, envy or lust? Why are they inspired to feel love, joy, or passion? With the stories and characters that Kim creates, her vision as a filmmaker is to inspire mankind to be better. Kim’s immediate goals are to work as a casting director, but her long-term goals include directing feature films or television series. All Kim Contreras needs is words and a camera to make an audience escape the material world.
