HYBRIDS

HYBRIDS
By David Thorpe

GENRE: Sci-fi, Thriller
LOGLINE:

Johnny (half-computer) and Kestrella (her hand's her phone) – victims of a disease that fuses people with their devices – unravel a conspiracy that will lead them to the top of a Britain in chaos.

Hybrids is X-Men meets Mr Robot for the tech-addicted generation. It exploits the popular anxiety that we are being taken over by technology.

SYNOPSIS:

A pandemic nicknamed Creep is terrorising Britain. With no known cure, it merges victims with their most frequently-used technology, turning them into 'hybrids' – feared, crippled, yet sometimes enhanced. No one dares use technology anymore.

Johnny's parents abandoned him when he began fusing with his computer. Now he sleeps rough, evading capture by the Gene Police. When his best friend dies under mysterious circumstances, Johnny publishes a manifesto – Declaration of the Rights of Hybrids – and begins hunting the killers.

Meanwhile, Kestrella Ito’s hand has fused with her phone and her mother has gone missing. Kestrella's father, a pharmaco executive, treats her with untested drugs, but she and her aunt – chair of pro-hybrid hospice Salvation House – suspect him of hiding something.

As Johnny's Declaration becomes a rallying cry for hybrids everywhere, the Acting Prime Minister commands BioSec's conflicted chief, Major Winter, to find Johnny and take him to the Centre for Genetic Rehabilitation. It also inspires Kestrella to seek Johnny's help. Together they will begin unravelling a web far larger than either could have imagined…
