I never intended to be a film maker. When I was young, I enjoyed making videos and editing little things here and there, but thought nothing more of it. Whilst studying for my psychology degree at the University of Nottingham, I came back to film making as a creative outlet, and decided to produce, direct and edit various passion projects including campaign videos, charity event promos and music videos for local bands. After completing an internship with Time Inc. over a summer, my first short film “Amber” won Best Short Film at the 2015 Nottingham Post Film Awards, as well as being selected for various other film festivals. Since graduating and returning to my hometown of London, I have pursued directing and editing as my sole career, and my music videos have been featured on MTV, Kerrang! and other popular TV and online music platforms. I have my second short film “I Am God, And Severely Underqualified” currently going through the festival circuit, which can be viewed on request.
Having a degree in psychology allows me to direct and edit my projects with an acute sensitivity to what is happening in the audiences’ minds, as well as the characters in my films. This developed approach has enabled me to produce work with a maturity and technicality considered to be beyond my years. I am trying to expand and build my portfolio as much as possible so am open to any and all projects at the moment. Hopefully by looking at my show reel and past work, you will see that the lack of formal training is made up for by the quality and standards I have been able to achieve without it.
One last thing, I edit under the pseudonym LEONARD GARNER, so if you see his name pop up under any editing credits, that is in fact me!
