About Stephen

Hi, I'm Stephen Gane, and I was born in Bath, Somerset, UK in 1948. I left school with no qualifications. I then found employment as an apprentice chef. I joined P&O and worked on cruise liners for a while. Then I moved to London where I ended my cooking career as head chef of a London Club. My second career was selling antiques which I did until I retired.

Suffering from dyslexia I've always had problems with reading and spelling, so any form of writing was always a problem for me. Writing a novel or screenplay never entered my head. But, Christmas 2013, I had a dream and had to write the story. Seven weeks and three days later "A Questionable Hero" was finished. And now I have written and published three more novels.

I have always loved movies and any form of visual art, I suppose being dyslexic I needed visual stimulation. About two months ago, I had an idea for a short film, and learned how to format screenplays from youtube. I then found Final Draft which helped me a lot. I have now written four more short screenplays, I have adapted one of my short novels (20000 words) into a feature film, and I am three quarters of the way through adapting my trilogy (70000 words) into a TV series, I have written the pilot and one episode so far. I have an idea for a full length feature film which would cost a small fortune to make, so I doubt it will ever happen. I am also writing two more novels.

At sixty seven years old, writing has come as a complete surprise to me, but I cannot stop now, I have all these ideas floating around in my head, but at my age I cannot think I will ever get them all finished.
