Off the coast of Washington state, an estranged local sports hero and a grieving scientist become unlikely allies in a quest to destroy a newly discovered man-eating species of shark.

SYNOPSIS:

The story opens with a Russian Climate change scientist, Nikoli Vostov and his wife are investigating climate change effect on the pack ice of northern Russia. As Nikoli witnesses, his wife is attacked by something when she accidentally falls into the water; she is killed before his helpless eyes. Fast forward to present day; location? a sea side community in the pacific northwest. A series of unexplained boating accidents happen just as our protagonist, Lucas Bach comes home after a lengthy period away to attend his grandmother's funeral. There is obvious tension between Lucas and his only surviving sibling, his older sister Meredith. This subplot endures throughout the story. Lucas also rekindles a romance with his high school sweetheart who is now a police officer; Angie Perez. As more incidents happen, Nikoli arrives to inform whomever will listen that he knows what's causing these incidents. On a chance encounter, he and Lucas meet, and it is Lucas who decides to help Nikoli identify the serpent. A series of unfortunate event involving well known locals finally cause alarm. And now with Nikoli and Lucas's help the authorities step in to destroy this killer. They are unsuccessful and it is up to Nikoli and Lucas in the story's climatic ending to kill the serpent on their own. With the help of an unlikely ally, they are able to do so.
