When a Hawaiian woman from the wrong side of the island loses custody of her only son, it is her re-connection to an extended family she never really knew and their proud ancestral history that reunites them.

SYNOPSIS:

Life on the leeward side of Oahu is very different from what the tourists visiting the Applebee's and Prada store on Waikiki Beach. Rose is a young Hawaiian mother living in Makaha, barely making ends meet as she supports her son Keone and mother Noni. When Noni passes out drunk and accidentally burns down the kitchen, Keone runs away and is taken into child protective services. Rose goes on a bender after she loses her son, which results in her also losing her job and spending a night in jail. Her life doesn't seem like it could get any worse when she is fortunate enough to meet Akela, her cousin from the other side of the island, and finds out about the family she never knew-- and the proud heritage she had yet to claim.
