by Ralph Celestin (Family)
Pierre, AKA Napo, S.E.L.L.A's Kitchen, is a coming of age inspirational drama based on a screenplay written by Ralph Antoine Celestin (the visionary director of Boston2Philly).
The film stars Trisha Mondesir as Marley aka S.E.L.L.A, an at risk teen and food prodigy living in Boston. At an early age she discovers she has a unique talent for cooking that far exceeds the droves of fans in her neighborhood and eventually she garners the attention of Napo, ( played by Arthur Williams III). Napo who narrowly survives an earthquake disaster in Haiti, moves to America with hopes of opening up a restaurant to teach and introduce the Haitian food culture to the masses.
Soon "Sella" finds herself enthralled in a vicious competition and under the tutelage of a mysterious teacher with a heavy accent, volatile personality and a culture far different than anything Sella's ever known. Through their differences, shared hardships and mutual love for food, a bond is formed by this unlikely pair and a young city slick unaware of her intense talent and a restaurant owner with unconventional methods, find themselves in the same kitchen, at the same time and unclear whether it's coincidence or destiny.
Story lines deal with the culture clash between the much younger Sella and the group of competing and battle-ridden Chefs (Tayla Andre, Jo Lee Stewart) all with their own unique backgrounds.
The film itself includes elements of core family values, extensive history regarding culinary industry, hip-hop music and functions as a mixture of melodrama, artistic cinema and comedy.
