Hello and thank you for stopping by.
Truthfully, I kinda fell into screenwriting. It just happened, similar to when I crossed a soggy Caribbean street, after a hurricane, and fell into a puddle up to my waist. Just like that but waaay more fun. After 13 years of living on a sunny Caribbean Island, I closed my art gallery and moved back to Canada. Why the hell?! You ask. Well, my three kids were getting older, and I wanted them to experience living in Canada; slap on a pair of skates, taste a snowflake, pour "real" maple syrup (no offense Aunt J.) on spaghetti.
My family set up shop in Niagara Falls, and I soon decided I wanted to take a break from painting, but for my sanity, I needed a new creative fix. So, after a weekend of binge-watching the Fargo series and eating bags of potato chips, I had a thought: I am really thirsty. My other thought was, "Hey, I could write stuff. Why not? I like telling stories. I paint, I tell stories with pictures." So I started educating myself, reading books and articles on screenwriting, reading dozens of scripts, analyzing formatting, then I started to write. And it was fun. I could outline and write a bit, make some notes, get up, drive my kids to sports, come home and write some more. When I finished my first screenplay, I knew it was the greatest story ever told. Sometime later, I realized it was, well, it was actually shit. That recognition, for me, was a critical part of becoming better as a writer.
I have two screenwriting trophies on my desk. They're pretty, shiny and made of glass. I'm proud of those. Helps make up for a childhood punctuated by "participant" ribbons. As 2017 winds down, my Stage 32 competition winning screenplay DOLPHIN GIRL is in pre-production, set to shoot in the spring. Woop, woop. I'm falling into directing next.
Let's chat, send me a note.
