ADO AHMAD GIDAN DABINO
Gidan Dabino is the one and only person in the entire Kannywood industry to have ever received the prestigious National Honors award of MON (Member of the Order of the Niger). But before reaching that peak, he was among the pioneers of Kannywood and he started originally as an author, one of the finest this city has ever produced.
He started film production way back in 1994 and in 2009 his film “Sandar Kiwo” was premiered in United Kingdom, Germany, Poland and India. Though he had been in hibernation since then, he made a come back last year with his serial drama “Juyin Sarauta”.
He has to his credit 12 published books, a career he began in 1991 with his first novel “In Da So” and his latest publication was “Mata da shaye-shayen maye” in 2012. He also published several articles in different media’s since 1992. The man beside all that is a publisher too, with his Gidan Dabino Publishers established in 1990 and have over 400 titles ranging from instructional books, novels and poems.
Gidan Dabino has received many awards, in fact too many to mention but among others, the leading Universities in the North, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Bayero University Kano and Usman Dan Fodio University Sokoto all awarded him. He holds a Diploma in Mass Communication from BUK in 2005.
He attended many national and international conferences and workshop, I know because we have attended two together by the American Embassy on scriptwriting in 2012 and New York Film Academy Master class in 2016. He attended others in Germany, Niger Republic, Benin and Mali. Ado has travelled to Germany, UK, Italy, France, Hollan, Morocco, Chad, Cameroon, Niger, Mali, Benin, Ghana, Ethiopia and Ivory Coast.
