  • La Tragedia de Macario

    La Tragedia de Macario (2005)
Drama by Velis Films/Pablo Velis El Patron Saw this at Sundance and was really impressed - Pablo Veliz is only 23 and this film, based on his father's experiences entering the US as well as the news clip at the end of the movie, is his first. He builds the life of Macario, his jokes, his loving but exasperated wife, Regina, their poverty, the disaster of losing his job, quite slowly so that by the time he and his friend make their attempt to cross the border, you really care about him. The magical realist elements of the 'visions' of the Virgin Mary worked for me. All the music was excellent, and the VM's singing was just lovely. The film gives a name and a face and a life story to just a couple of would-be immigrants to the US.

  • Tilt

    Tilt (2003)
by Starstruck Pictures Inc./Lance Peverley The Coroner/Photo Double This version of the story brings the ancient tale to modern day but all the old familiar names are there. As in Cervantes's tale, Don Quixote is persistent in his belief in chivalry and honour. He clings to the old ways and is reluctant to give way to modern behaviours. He sees things in a different way, the smoke stack of a factory is a beast to be conquered, his bicycle is his trusty steed and the hapless man stranded by a transit strike who tries to help suddenly finds himself to be the sidekick to the deluded Quixote.

Terry wants her in and out the same night, but she wants a permanent assignment so she contrives to get Simon's attention. Terry must now pretend to live with her. • Freddy Got Fingered

    Freddy Got Fingered
Film by New Regency Pictures/Tom Green Pulp Mill Worker Gordon, 28, an aspiring animator, leaves his home in Oregon to sell his ideas to Hollywood. After being told, correctly, that they are quite possibly the most stupid ideas ever and that he needs to spend time rethinking them, he moves back home. But his father, never a kind man, escalates his mean treatment of his rather unconventional son. Meanwhile, Gord has fallen for Betty, an attractive doctor at the hospital where his friend is staying; she happens to use a wheelchair, and to delight in having her paralyzed legs beaten with a bamboo cane; her sexual aggression intimidates him. Gord's family goes to a psychiatrist, and he lies to her that his father molests Gord's brother, Freddy; Gord neglects to mention that Freddy is 25. Soon, Gordon has the house to himself, and comes up with a winning animated series, "Zebras in America" based on his own family. All this is really a framework on which Tom Green hangs his usual crazy stunts.
