CAMP CHUPACABRA
By Joe Leone

GENRE: Horror
LOGLINE: A smart but shy teen is sent with a band of miscreants to a dilapidated summer camp, only to discover she and the others are bait to appease a voracious ghoul.

SYNOPSIS:

Raina has always been a kind hearted girl, a practical thinker and an over achiever.  Yet she is afflicted with a debilitating shyness.  Before Raina heads off to college in the fall, she is determined to finally socialize with some people her own age.  While the rest of her classmates are headed to exclusive sleep away camps, Raina knows that this will put a huge financial strain on her struggling parents, so she scours the internet for the most inexpensive camp to attend.  What she finds is a place in Mexico, and it is ridiculously cheap.  Welcome to "Camp Chupacabra".      When Raina (equipped with her ostensibly nerdy "survival kit") boards the bus that will take her there, she abruptly encounters the rest of her camp-mates; all of whom seem to suffer from some sort of social disorder or otherwise blatant personality flaw.  From Stephen, the Hunter S. Thompson-voiced writer with an alcohol problem, to Melissa, the MDMA huffing, sex addicted beauty queen; they are a motley crew indeed.  Upon arriving at the "camp" it becomes immediately clear to Raina why this place is so inexpensive: it's a complete dump.  The "pool" is a mud hole, the bunks are dilapidated hammocks and the main "activity" is chicken plucking.  When one of the campers asks the Head Counselor about the surreptitious name of the institution, he explains that it is just a phrase the indigenous people say, referring to "sacred poultry", and he quickly changes the subject.       The first night there, one especially odd boy, Riley, ventures out in search of a mysterious noise.  This is the last anyone sees of him.  The following night, the alpha male of the clan, Dashaun, is attacked by an unseen beast.  The Counselor drives him to the hospital - but never returns.  The campers are now completely abandoned, as the camp resides in the middle of the desert and their only means of transportation has now disappeared.  The beast, a horrific and insatiable Chupacabra (a vampiric bat-like being), fully makes its presence known.  A disturbing pattern quickly emerges, as the kids are getting picked off like Spanish flies.  Desperately seeking answers, the kids confront the custodian, who reluctantly divulges this information: the camp was devised in order to provide the Chupacabra with ample sustenance, so as to keep the townspeople safe...and uneaten.  When only Raina, Melissa and Stephen remain, they concoct a plan to destroy the insatiable chimera.  Not realizing how outmatched they are by the creature's sheer ruthlessness, their scheme quickly falls apart, and lives are yet again lost.  The last woman now standing, Raina must somehow outsmart and outrun the beast.  The Head Counselor returns, hoping to find all the campers digested by the Chupacabra.  However, Raina has not yet succumbed, and has no choice but to sacrifice the malignant Counselor in order to save herself.  She then uses her keen intellect to lure the Chupacabra into a final trap...yet its heightened senses detect something amiss.  Can Raina somehow survive the night and stop this atrocious monster once and for all?
