BROKEN FRAME
By Stephen Boncella

GENRE: Drama
LOGLINE:

A returning Vietnam Veteran battles the ghost of his family's troubled past as he rebuilds the family farm.

SYNOPSIS:

It’s 1975 and Mike Davis, a returning Vietnam Veteran, struggles to survive in an America plagued by high unemployment and hostility towards ex-serviceman. His last chance is the one place he vowed never to return – the hardscrabble family farm he left to escape an abusive alcoholic father.

Mike faces an uphill struggle from the moment he pulls into the driveway. The farm has suffered from years of neglect and his family’s troubled past haunts him at every corner. However his biggest challenge is Emma, the kid sister he abandoned and the farm’s current owner. She’s grown up to become a drug-addicted-prostitute with deep emotional scars from being abandoned. Emma has her own plans for the farm; sell it and move to L.A with her charismatic pimp, Kurt.

As Mike rebuilds the farm a friendship blossoms between him and Sue, his high school crush. Unhappy with being a simple housewife Sue yearns for what could have been. She reaches her breaking point and in a moment of insanity has a night of passion with Mike.

It all leads to Mike trying to reconcile with Emma for his past wrongs only to end up in a gun battle when Kurt demands the full share of the farm.

BROKEN FRAME is a compelling, gritty tale of a dysfunctional family with the main character going down a redemptive arch as he attempts to mend the broken remnants of his family. It’s ‘MANCHESTER BY THE SEA’ and ‘WINTER’S BONE’ set in the Seventies.
