Michael has been in the film industry for over 30 years, working on a variety of live action, animated and stage productions along the way. He directed the world premiere of Ayn Rand's play, IDEAL, in 1989 at the Melrose Theater, and was the first filmmaker to write, produce and direct a documentary about the Ayn Rand in 1997—AYN RAND: A SENSE OF LIFE. The film won an Oscar nomination in 1997 and a Golden Satellite Award for Best Documentary Feature in 1998, and it changed the entertainment landscape by exposing Ayn Rand's background and sense of life to the movie-going public. Since then, Michael has been shepherding feature film projects, educational videos and writing screenplays while teaching film production, directing, production design and film history. He first entered the world of animation at Disney in 1989 as a writer for the Feature Animation Department on THE LITTLE MERMAID, followed by production work on a number of animated features and shorts--ROVER DANGERFIELD (with Rodney Dangerfield) for Warner Bros., as Visual Effects Supervisor on STUART LITTLE 2 for Sony Imageworks, as the Associate Producer on THE LION KING 1 ½ for Disney, BIONICLE 3: WEB OF SHADOWS for Lego/Miramax, SMALLVILLE LEGENDS: KARA & THE CHRONICLES OF KRYPTON for Warner Bros., as the Assistant Director on THE PAGEMASTER for Twentieth Century Fox and THE ITSY BITSY SPIDER (with Jim Carey). He also co-directed the short, A PLACE IN THE CIRCLE, with Pixote Hunt. He has authored a number of books and lectured at numerous film festivals and universities across the country. Currently, he is a writer/producer/director for an independent animation studio, Creative Capers Entertainment, that produces original animated content (2D, CGI and Flash), as well as animation on projects for major studios such as Disney, Pixar, MGM and others. As a producer/writer/director, he is also developing the feature film projects THE GIFT OF THE DEER and GONDA: A HOLLYWOOD STORY (currently in pre-production). ()
