CAPITAL OFFENSE
By Mike Johnston

GENRE: Crime, Thriller
LOGLINE:

Just as a defendant is about to be found guilty in a home invasion murder case, the judge's granddaughter is kidnapped. The defendant knows where she’s being held because he’s robbed that house before. And wants to go free.

SYNOPSIS:

Judge Colt Granger's 8-year-old granddaughter Haley is kidnapped by an unknown abductor. Shortly after, defense attorney Eden Dawes approaches Colt with a deal - his client Antoine "Fever" Dubois knows who took Haley and where she's being held, and will provide the information in exchange for his freedom. Colt is trying Fever for the quadruple murder of a family.

Desperate to find Haley, Colt conspires to grant Fever bail and release him, despite the man's obvious guilt. Colt's childhood friend Rondo agrees to help bring Fever to reveal Haley's location. However, Fever double-crosses them and escapes.

It's discovered that Haley was kidnapped by a man named Wesley Watkins to be part of his "doll collection" of abducted girls. Colt receives a packet from Dawes revealing Wesley's identity and crimes. The FBI raids Wesley's home and rescues the girls, including Haley.

Colt and Rondo track down Fever at a motel to exact vengeance. In a shootout, Rondo is fatally wounded but they succeed in killing Fever. Colt is arrested for Fever's murder.

Six months later, Colt is serving time in a minimum security prison. His family visits him, with Haley happily playing checkers with her grandfather, letting him win. Though Colt lost his friend and freedom, he ultimately saved his granddaughter and brought her kidnapper to justice.
