Greetings! I'm a television writer who just returned to the industry after a long hiatus supporting my differently abled son. In my first iteration, I was a development executive and ran Martin Lawrence's company with a deal at HBO. I'm currently a Story Editor on the Netflix series Family Reunion, in the most amazing and supportive writer's room. My short film, For Sale, is currently in pre-production. I'm looking to sharpen my skills and to connect with other writers as I'm making my return to the entertainment business.

I had the best call today with the amazing Kay Ross https://www.stage32.com/KRoss and got all caught up on her projects. She is a podcaster - her "Pre-Pro Podcast" lifts up young creatives and treats them like what they are; Pre-Professionals. Kay is a champion of the inner teenager. Wish I'd had that when I was a teen!

Kay and I both love telling stories about strong females, and we got to nerd out about that for a while. Her stories range from the current world of healthcare workers, back to the days of knights, dragons, and damsels in distress (the feminist first female knight I didn't know I needed in my life), to a series about what it's like coming of age in the unique environment of Renaissance fairs in the 90s.

(Also, this whole introduce a friend networking event was Kay's brilliant idea!)

We also discovered that we've both been on the same Game of Thrones tour in Northern Ireland which included a tour of Giants Causeway and the Carrick-a-Rede Rope bridge spanning the dizzying gap over the North Atlantic from the mainland to a small island.

Our love of fantasy is mutual, even though I mostly write grounded comedies featuring funny women who make you laugh and cringe and attempt to normalize singledom in your thirties. I'm a standup comedian and dating columnist as well as a screenwriter, and in all three mediums I tend to write what I know ;)

I'm Kay, a fiction and screenwriter, new to Stage 32, but not new to the industry. I've been in love with books and movies since childhood and finally made the switch to screenwriting about 5 years ago. Love the challenge of it. I've had success with contests and coverage, but need to network more with like minded creatives and work towards getting repped by a manager. I really love the webinars at Stage 32; and reading some of these posts within the Lounge feels like Home to me. Kudos to all of you for making this seem like a welcoming place. I'm hoping to new friends. I'm eager offer insights and encouragement to those in need of a read or help with brainstorming. It's so refreshing to see so many conversations about writing and movie making! Hoping I can contribute to that too.

It's been a busy weekend. Yesterday, I watched a great webinar through Stage 32 about creating a TV Pilot. The featured guest, David Shecter, gave us a lot of great info and insight. I've also been putting the finishing touches to an online audio children's book series, "Harrison's Hat". We're going to launch the first three books in the first week of March and we're pumped. My wife is doing the narration and my son is doing the voices, music and recording. To top that off, I'm finishing a rewrite of a screenplay that I will be sending to Sarah J. Cornelius at Stage 32 for further coverage. After that? Just to sit back and enjoy a beer or two or three!

If you're new to Stage 32, you've come to the right place. I have submitted four different screenplays to executives and have always received good coverage. The criticism can be tough, but it's constructive and, after taking time to sift through it, you knuckle down and tackle it again. What really helps with the coverage is that you know what mistakes not to make when you submit your next screenplay. With one screenplay I finally got a double recommend from Sarah J. Cornelius. With something to show from my works, I was able to make contact with a production company in Toronto. They were also working on a children's book and asked me to help. After many rewrites, and online meetings with the illustrator, we are about to launch the first three books of "Harrison's Hat" online in February. What makes this even more exciting is that the producers have a relative who is an established TV producer in LA. He is very interested in looking at another series the producers have created and I will assist them in the writing of that was well. In spite of the terrible past year we've had, we've still been able to write. It's given us the time to reflect and appreciate what we have.. It's also given us the time to make contacts. I feel very fortunate that, because of Stage 32, work has come my way. I hope the same happens to all of you with your creative works..
