POACHERS
By Adam Etheridge

GENRE: Action, Drama
LOGLINE:

Returning to her broken family home in Africa, Kat, an isolated CIA operative, must work with her estranged Father to defeat a ruthless gang of ivory poachers intent on murdering every last elephant in South Africa.

SYNOPSIS:

KAT is in her mid-30’s and an operator working for the CIA. We quickly learn that she’s highly skilled and driven, but she keeps herself isolated, and resists making personal connections with the people around her.

Kat is on an operation when she’s informed that her Father has been shot and injured back home. The news doesn’t seem to affect her. Nevertheless, for the first time in 20 years, Kat travels to South Africa and to her Father’s Animal Reserve where she grew up. Her Father is fine, but their relationship is strained and clearly damaged by something in their past. He seems to want to patch things up, but won’t say why. Kat isn’t interested…

She wants to leave immediately - to get back to work. But then Kat learns the truth… that the animal reserve is under an unprecedented threat from a ruthless gang of ivory poachers, intent on murdering every last animal with a tusk in the country. Previously ill-equipped and shambolic, thesepoachers are now well funded, well-armed and brutally effective. Kat’s Father, and the local rangers, are losing badly.

Kat still doesn’t want to get involved, but then witnesses, first hand, the savage murder of an ELEPHANT COW, leaving behind a baby elephant CALF. Orphaned by the poachers. Kat realizes that her Father will stop at nothing to stand up to the Poachers, if even it costs him his life.

By the end of Act 1, Kat is faced with choice. Either run away from her past, or stay behind and help…

…she decides to stay… and Kat is forced to work with her estranged father to defeat the Poachers. But she’s hugely outnumbered and outgunned… so she’s going to have to learn to rely on the people around her if she’s going to save her home.
