In the distant future, humanity has become a part of an intergalactic society,
where the Universal Fighting League is the favorite sport among all species. When the
brother/partner of the champion human fighter is badly injured in a match, the champion
is forced to team with a rebellious alien fighter to re-enter the league. As they battle their
way up the ranks, the new team must put aside their hatred of each other if they hope to
take on the massively powerful alien now holding the championship title.
SYNOPSIS:
In the distant future, where Earth has made contact with alien worlds, creating a
galactic society, the simplest form of entertainment has remained the most loved
throughout the universe: fighting. The Universal Fighting League oversees this
planet-spanning sport of matches between solo fighters of different species and the more
popular doubles team fighting, where two fighters face off against two other fighters in
always-epic battles.
Amongst the many strong and talented alien teams, the UFL Team Champions for
five years have been MASON and RESUS ROME. Older brother Resus has taken his
fame in stride, balancing a hard training schedule with time for his wife and son. Though
he tries, Resus is finding it harder and harder to keep up with Mason, a hard partying,
philandering brawler who never stops looking for a new challenge. These two brothers,
fighting together since they were young, have used their innate skills, training and
communication to overcome the toughest opponents in the League, and become beloved
celebrities throughout the galaxy.
All good things must come to an end, and the Rome’s winning streak hits this
end when corrupt, snake-tongued trainer/manager SMECKO JAMES convinces the UFL
Board into allowing the long-banned Trog species access to the UFL ring. Ten feet tall,
with overwhelming strength and surprising speed, Trogs were kept out of the UFL
because of the clear advantage they would have over other fighters, but through cunning
and bribery, Smecko convinces the Board to allow solo Trogs to fight against teams,
paving the way for his own fighter MAMMOTH to battle the Romes.
The Romes battle with Mammoth becomes the event of the year, garnering the
attention of species across the galaxy. When the fight begins, Mason and Resus hold
nothing back as they attack Mammoth at once. Despite their best efforts, Mammoth
brushes off their attacks and returns the aggression ten fold. When the match is over,
Mason is barely able to walk, and Resus is flown away in a space ambulance. When the
doctors report that Resus will never be able to fight again if he recovers, Mason falls into
a depression, wanting to avenge his brother, but not believing he could ever find another
partner he could fight as well with.
The Rome’s craggy, no-BS trainer ELBINO SMIT doesn’t let Mason wallow in
self-pity for long, and talks him into finding a new partner, pointing Mason towards
ICHABOD, a Stellagardian fighting his way up the solo ladder. Mason is immediately
loath to the idea. Long ago, the Stellagardians went to war with Earth, but were
overcome by the blue planet’s superior technology, allowing the victorious humans to
stay and occupy Gardia, making the Stella race universal second-class citizens. The
Romes’ father fought in the war, and raised Resus and Mason to see Stellas as nothing
more than criminals and terrorists.
And Ichabod, a staunch believer in Stellagardian independence who wants to
translate his fame and fortune as a fighter to help his people, has little desire to fight
alongside the racist, bullheaded Mason. But, when Elbino makes it clear to both fighters
that teaming together is their best chance at achieving their goals, Mason and Ichabod
form an unsteady alliance as they train and reenter the League as the first inter-species
UFL team.
Mason and Ichabod’s partnership is put to the test as they are put through
vigorous training sessions by Elbino; running blade-filled obstacle courses, rubber bullet
rooms, and a twenty-story rope course. Things do not get easier after a flawed match
against Jello-like Brynians which nearly ends their team, but after some tough, humbling
lessons, Mason and Ichabod agree to put aside their egos and bigotries and fight their way
to a rematch with Mammoth – an opponent they may not be able to beat.
