Biography – Stefan Bartels-Daal

Stefan is a second year Codarts Music Production student. He has his home studio equipment where he works on his regular school projects and creates new productions with other artists in collabs. Stefan's goal is create a network with other artist’s, and is joining different projects. Stefan is a determined, goal-oriented and talented musician that is open to working on collaborations and has a very strong team-oriented work method.

He produces mainly Pop, Zouk, R&B, Hip Hop and House. He also works on projects in other genre's like Latin, Rock and experimental music.

Stefan's music career started with an innate curiosity for rhythm; at age 6 he devised his own drum set out of trash cans, paint cans, pots and pans. Later he would play for hours with three sticks on this DIY drum-set. Stefan attributes his success to his Caribbean roots, the support from his family and the opportunity to work with many experienced and talented musicians through out the years.

For example, at age 9, Stefan was playing in a rock band as a drummer. The band, A2N (According to Nature) consisted of Conrad Bartelsdaal (lead guitar), Aymar Middendorp (bass), Valeo Geerman (second guitar), Wessel Schaling (vocalist) and later also Rafael Buena de Mesquita (third guitar).

As he became involved in this band, Stefan also began to walk the way of his musical journey, gaining experience playing with a band and working as a producer.

After 4 years the band was dissolved. This was a big change for Stefan and caused him to go on hiatus for a year, on the one hand his brother had left to study abroad and on the other he had never played with other musicians than the A2N band. With some encouragement, 14 year old Stefan joined the SONGGO Band, a Latin, Caribbean and Carnaval Music band. This was a totally different experience than before and Stefan learned the ropes of playing at events and working as a musician delivering entertainment at paid gigs.

This change propelled him into the his first contest. He participated in the Aruba Calypso and Roadmarch contest and arranged an original song for the band. This is when Stefan found his passion for producing, becoming immersed in learning about the process of producing music. Inspired by a video his brother showed him about Timbaland, he began to work avidly at creating and experimenting with beats and learning from online videos.

Today Stefan continues to sharpen his vision and work at learning and further develop his skills, talents and creativity.
