When a Jewish monster-hunter and her sorcerer brother pursue a young vampire through rural Texas, her increasingly reckless behavior triggers a crisis of faith and the loss of her supernatural powers.

SYNOPSIS:

1910 -- LAILA OLESKO and her brother AVRUM are Baalai Shem, Jewish sorcerers who hunt supernatural monsters with their divine magic. They investigate ELIZABETH, a teenager who appears possessed after an assault. Their mission is complicated with the discovery Elizabeth has become a vampire. The Oleskos are torn between a desire to save a scared girl and their duty to kill monsters. The rift between Laila and her brother opens old wounds and leads to the loss of Laila’s powers. Laila struggles with her desire to atone for her sins -- both to her brother and God -- and decides to face Elizabeth, knowing it means her certain death.
