SYNOPSIS:

Synopsis

SARA, 28, longs to get back into the world of Michelin star cuisine. She tries to focus on the good things in her present but she is battling with her past that at times threatens to overwhelm her. She has fought hard overcoming her anorexia and is almost at her ideal weight - the weight where she promised herself she would get back into life and start pursuing not just her health but her dreams.

But just before she achieves that weight, she discovers her rival TOM WHITE is making waves in the restaurant world and she breaks her own rule and pitches herself head long back into the world that almost broke her.

Sara celebrates being healthy for a year with her best friend from uni, LEILA, in her fifties, with whom she is now tentatively reconciling.“Jamelie“. Sara is hurt that Leila cannot just be happy for her.

Dave and Jimmy have trouble communicating. Jimmy´s escapism is playing and developing video games. Dave is struggling to adapt to his new life as a recently single father. Leila works at the “Brighton Herald Newspaper”. She is bored with her job as a reporter only covering local news. She has aspirations to write feature articles.

Sara is busy practising for her interview, but she is struggling with her demons of the past and with the conditions in her tiny kitchen. In the end, she swallows her pride and calls Leila for support. She thinks Sara should practice in Dave´s modern, large kitchen.

Dave welcomes them in his kitchen and Jimmy is especially happy to see Sara, his godmother. It is a chance for them all to spend some time together again. Sara feels more at ease and she creates beautiful chocolate soufflés in memory of her father, whose birthday it would have been on that day. Before Sara and Leila leave, Sara promises Dave that she will babysit Jimmy, as Dave has an important meeting for the art museum he is developing.

Sara is hectically getting ready for her interview when she receives a call from MINDY, 23, who was supposed to fill in for Sara at her receptionist job and now says that she cannot make it because her friend´s cat died. Sara is stressed already and tells Mindy to deal with the cat later and go to work. As she leaves her flat, Sara is being photographed by someone, but we do not yet see who it is.

At “Jamelie´s”, Sara is greeted by a receptionist who asks her to go through to the kitchen. Her father´s voice gives her the confidence she needs. Sara visited the restaurant with him shortly before his death. But her confidence fades, as she is greeted by a woman in tears leaving the kitchen and it makes Sara remember her time at cooking school. She did not pass her final exam, as she fainted because of malnutrition. Sara´s interview with the chef PIERRE, in his late forties, does not go as well as she has hoped. She is too nervous and that is what you can taste in her food. Sara says as much, but he remains final in his decision not to hire her. She is too inexperienced and her chocolate soufflé is not as perfect as it should be. Pierre is striving for a second star, so he cannot work with anything less than perfect. He says goodbye, but cannot remember her name. She says her name is Clare Childs, but then she corrects herself. Sara is distraught when she is outside the restaurant. To make matters worse, she gets a text from her landlord that she needs to pay her rent and her boss informs her that she is fired because Mindy never showed up. Sara goes to the sea to calm herself down, but her depressed state is only strengthened as she watches the high waves and wishes to be swallowed by them. Luckily, she gets a text from Leila reminding her that she is not alone.

Sara makes her way to the group therapy session. Almost everyone tries to be supportive and says that she is probably better off without the cut-throat Michelin star world. LARRY, 34, one of the members of the group, points out the pitfalls. Sara is not sure what to think. She really wanted that job. What Sara does not know is that LAUREN, 30, a chef de partie, makes Pierre aware of the fact that the woman who came in for an interview must be Clare Childs, who writes the food blog “To wish upon a star”. Pierre´s eyes widen, he knows the blog well and loves it. Sara is asked to come back to the restaurant. Pierre makes it very clear that she needs to work extra hard to make up for lost time, otherwise she could just as easily lose her job again. He cannot offer her the position she wanted, but he can offer her a commis chef position. Pierre makes it clear that he runs a clean kitchen, he does not allow any drugs. Suspecting that the gap in Sara's CV was a trip to rehab for drugs, Pierre warns her he runs a clean kitchen and has a zero tolerance for drug use. Sara assures him that she was not well and that she does not and did not do drugs. Pierre asks her to start tomorrow morning. Sara swallows, as she thinks about Dave and his meeting, but she cannot let this opportunity slip her by. Sara arrives home with a smile on her face and she happily takes a card from “Jamelie” off her “collage wall” and writes “Sara Rivers, commis chef (going on sous-chef) on it.” But she cringes as her eyes fall onto her food diary. She has not eaten enough today. Sara is so tired that she can neither finish her food nor tell Dave that she cannot make it tomorrow. She falls asleep while she is calling him. The next day: Sara wakes up with a fright. She did not set her alarm, but it is still early. She calls Dave, but only gets his voicemail. She apologises that she will not be able to babysit. As Sara leaves her flat, someone is taking photographs of her again. Now we see that it is a young man, HENRY, 31.
