Jon Musgrave has written more than two dozen scripts and teleplays over a variety of genres but often period pieces from 11th Century England to the American frontier of the 18th and 19th Centuries. He’s also been brought on board to rewrite scripts under consideration by TPTFilms Entertainment.
He’s currently developing pitches for three series: The Dragons Within, set in 1013 during the Danish invasion of England, The Warring Twenties, based on his manuscript and research into the violent decade during Prohibition that witnessed more than 70 deaths between the Mine War, Klan War, and Gang War centered in Bloody Williamson County, Illinois, as well as Vengeance River, a coming-of-age crime drama about the early 19th Century Ancient Colony reset in the 1960s.
Outside screenwriting, Jon Musgrave writes historical nonfiction and novels with a focus on his region’s violent criminal history from the frontier days to the mid-20th Century, including his novel, The Counterfeiter’s Son, set in the days of the Ancient Colony, and co-authoring two histories on the 20th Century Prohibition Era gangs of Charlie Birger and the Shelton Brothers.
He’s appeared as an expert on the topics for both The History Channel and the Investigation Discovery channel. He’s worked locations for three feature films in the region, is an associate producer for a fourth, and serves as a board member for the Southern Illinois Film Commission.
