Carlo, a priest, is compelled to fight with the Philippine Communist New People’s Army against the government when his Igorot native parish’s village is threatened to be deluged by a Dictator Marcos dam project in the hinterlands of Northern Philippines in the 1970s.
Based on actual events, Cordillera Red Rising depicts how the Communist New People’s Army took root among the Igorot natives within the Cordillera Mountains in Northern Luzon, Philippines.
Although, initially an anti-communist, Father Carlo went through being a reluctant communist to being a full supporter and fighter with the revolutionaries. He is joined by a best friend, Julius, who left the government armed forces after realizing the justness of Father Carlo’s struggle. Their armed might, along with the legal battles in the cities led by another best friend, Noel, forced Dictator Marcos to stop the dam project.
