Pusoy, Russian Roulette in Filipino, depicts how cards of life, bad or good, are dealt to anyone. Rodel, during a round of Pusoy, narrates the horrendous lives of Filipino American immigrants in the United States given their circumstances and how they struggled to play their cards to success.
SYNOPSIS:
Rodel, along with descendants of Patriarch Sebio, celebrates the 89th birthday of the patriarch. Sebio, a retired chief petty officer in the US Navy, is the first Igorot native from his tribe’s hinterland to have joined the service in the late 1930s. By being a naturalized citizen, Sebio was able to bring his family to the United States along with a succession of other relatives borne out of his clan.
While, generally, the US is really a land of milk and honey, it was not all rosy for a number of them – to include being raped, abused, victims of racism, and the like – nonetheless, winning in life all because they had to escape the poverty in the motherland.
