An overachieving perfectionist must exact revenge on her socially superior tormentors after a humiliating school prank sabotages her academic future and individuality.
Hi, John. You put "must" like she's required to exact revenge. Does she have to exact revenge (like she's forced to)? If not, maybe change "must" to "tries to."
My idea for the protagonist's journey was to transform herself into a femme fatale-esque character who gets her revenge on her tormentors in the first half of the story only for her actions to have consequences and affecting her family and friends around her as well as her future with the second half returning to the person she needed to be with a redemption arc. Still tweaking the idea as I go along.

I put "must" as a means to raise the stakes for the protagonist.

Does she have to get revenge as in "she must get revenge or else," John? If so, I can see how that raises the stakes.
