About Betty

After college, Betty volunteered for an independent film organization and started working in TV advertising production. Ms. García soon developed a diverse background as a producer and director. Her experience ranges from broadcast, branded video, animation, digital, and film production.

While working as a video and creative producer, Ms. García wrote, directed, and produced three short films. Her 2nd film Firecracker aired on the cable network SiTV on its “Not So Foreign Filmmakers Showcase.” Lola, Betty’s third film, premiered at the HBO New York International Film Festival and was an official selection at the New Latin Cinema International Film Festival in Havana. The film also screened at other festivals worldwide, winning the Memorable Award from the Greece International Panorama of Independent Film & Video Makers.

Betty Marisol García is a past honoree of Project Involve, an Independent Feature Project fellowship awarded to filmmakers of color. She served as the diversity chair for the New York Chapter of NALIP (National Association of Latino Independent Producers) in 2008 and 2009. In 2010, Betty graduated with a Masters in Film and Media Studies from the New School University.
