AN END TO WAR
By Jesse Burns

GENRE: Military/War, Science Fiction
LOGLINE:

When an eccentric German American scientist, tasked with bringing the horrors of WW2 to a close via a 'super-weapon,' instead creates hordes of terrible monsters, he is forced to deal with the consequences of his actions, while finding himself against his own personal monsters from his bloody past.

SYNOPSIS:

The year is 1942, summer, in the sleepy New York town of Amagansett. We're introduced to a pretty girl of young age named Marlene Wright. She is bringing groceries to a long defunct mine. She takes the groceries underground, to a fantastical montage of scientific equipment and MASSIVE insects the size of dogs. She is shocked, but is introduced to our main character, Ari Rabin. Having fought in the first world war on the side of Germany, as a person from Jewish descent, Ari decided to move to America during the 1920s as a way to escape from his bloody past. A scientist, he explains to Marlene the process as to how he turned such small insects into massive creatures. She leaves, and someone else shows up, Jean Kurtz. Jean is a Colonel attached to military intelligence. Both him and Ari talk as it soon becomes apparent that both are working on a 'super-weapon' of sorts to end the Second World War.

Jean leaves, and Ari heads to town to get some lunch. He soon meets his good friend Bob Wright, father of Marlene Wright and they hit it off as old friends. When Ari leaves Bob, he runs into a man named Kevin Slater, who is the fiancée of Marlene Wright. Kevin is angry at Ari for scaring Marlene, and spending far too much time with her. When the drama is done with, both leave.

Ari is busy at his lab, doing more experiments. His next action is trying to create devices that allow these massive insects to breathe in our modern environment. As during the carboniferous era, the planet's oxygen content was much higher - allowing such massive insects to form in the first place. Ari argues his 'superweapon' will allow these massive ants to attack the Axis - thus saving the lives of soldiers. Jean Kurtz walks in and they both discuss this. Jean is skeptical, and gives Ari two weeks.

Kevin Slater, his friends and Ari get into an argument. Kevin is suspicious his allegiance is to his home nation of Germany. So to test the friendship, Kevin offers Ari a boat ride so they can bond together. As an injured WW2 soldier, Kevin and Ari further bond over Ari's horrific experience during the first world war. Both realize they have more in common than they think.

Ari does more experiments. He enters the massive chamber of the giant ants. One escapes.

Bob Wright shows up. There is a massive explosion. Soon, several of those giants ants pour out and attack Bob. They kill him. Marlene discovers this and now hates Ari for unintentionally killing her father.

The town sheriff arrests Ari, and holds him in the local jail. There is a mob outside demanding justice. Almost when Ari might be attacked by the mob, German soldiers spring out of nowhere and hold the entire town, including Ari hostage. It turns out Kevin Slaters "friends" were really Germany spies following the research of Ari Rabin.

A German officer interrogates Ari, and tries to convince Ari to come back to Germany, as once Hitler is overthrown, there won't be any problems. Ari initially agrees.

Once they reach his lab, the Germans are shocked what he is developing. And not in a good way. Just then, the lone giant ant that escaped his colony attacks one of the German soldiers. One of the Germans accidentally shoots out the window separating the colony from the outside. Soon the massive ants swarm out. At the same time, a fleet of American soldiers show up. There is a massive firefight between the giant ants, the American and German military. There is a great slaughter. Some of the Germans escape, and there is a huge chase as the giant queen ant chases them to the town proper. A massive bazooka strikes the giant queen ant and she is blown up. American forces are shown as to have blown up the queen, as they take the Germans hostage.

Marlene Wright is shown as to have escaped and alerted the proper authorities. That explains the presence of American military units. Ari is now a hero.

Aftermath: Ari scans his ruined lab. He is dejected until Jean Kurtz announces there will be a new superweapon that Ari can help them with to end WW2. It's called The Manhattan Project.
