SYNOPSIS:

A police officer named Jim Marsden is killed while responding to a robbery call in a small town in rural United States, leaving behind an infant daughter and a wife who he has repeatedly been unfaithful to. A few weeks after his funeral, he awakens, confused and searching desperately for his family that he never got the chance to atone with. Jim learns that the dead are rising all over the planet, but these aren't the usual mindless, flesh eating dead. They still have their humanity intact and are attempting to reach their families for help. They're scared and frightened about what is happening in the phenomenon known world-wide as The Rising. Jim wrestles with what has happened to him and what he did to his family. His questions and problems mount as his quest to get back to his family continues. His body is decaying quickly and he finds ways to disguise himself and blend in with the public as he tries to find answers. Armed militias are on the prowl. They have no care for the fact that The Risen aren't flesh eating monsters. They want them all dead. Jim is constantly hunted. Visions of his family haunt him. At first a victim of his malady, Jim turns into a survivor and finds others like him who he rallies against the militias, who stand between him and making right with his family. At the end it’s the armed undead against the living in a huge battle as the militia catches up to Jim. He prevails but is captured by government forces who want to study him. Jim fears that he'll never get a chance to see his family again. Jim's redemption depends on his actions during his quest after death, for it is in death that Jim finally grows as a human being. Jim gets a final meeting with his wife and his redemption comes as he says goodbye and his spirit leaves the remains of his mortal body.
