With the help of an Indian nun and retired British boxer, a drug-addicted American woman finds redemption fighting for children born of Calcutta brothels.
SYNOPSIS:
“Kali on the Ropes” is an underdog story bringing hope to the dark world of prostitution and poverty in India. Aarya is a self-destructive woman battling her demons far from home. To find redemption, she must fight for others in Calcutta, with both fist and heart, becoming the fierce female figure the world needs her to be. She is guided by two unlikely friends, Sister Maria and Filip. Sister Maria is a catholic nun and Aarya’s spiritual guide. Filip is a retired British boxer, shamed and hiding from his past. By training Aarya for her fight, he finds forgiveness and learns to live in the world once more. With Sister Maria's guidance, Aarya ends up volunteering with the nuns to help the children of brothel women. Eventually, she finds herself participating in an underground boxing match to win money to help two of the children. The story is infused with spiritual overtones, which propel the main character forward through recovery from addiction.
