THE INTERNET MARKER

THE INTERNET MARKER
By Mike Buchanan

GENRE: Science Fiction
LOGLINE:

A man without an identify finds himself in a battle against a maniacal being out to overcome the minds of mankind through futuristic Internet technology.

SYNOPSIS:

In the near future, a secret chip implantation program, dubbed the Internet Marker, embedded in the brains of humans, ushers in a new era of intelligence and an ominous plan by governments to manipulate thought and behavior at the global level

Reed Slater, a successful stockbroker whose personal struggles are beginning to get the best of him, hardly recognizes, like most people, the signs of diminished individual will brought on by the novelty of the Internet, nor the threat to sovereign thought and behavior that may unfold with this emerging technology.

Despite Reed’s success, he’s dogged by the absence of his parents who mysteriously disappeared when he was a child. Their void caused him to fall into destructive behavior that lands him in rehab for drug abuse. Reed presumes that falling flat is the natural course of things for an addict. What’s more, he gives up on ever seeing his parents again.

That all changes when he is visited by a warrior-like being known as the Lioness who’s responsible for protecting a mutant force that reunited with Reed, elevating him to the stature of a god, and rendering him a target of an evil god who wants to rule the world by overcoming the minds of mankind through futuristic Internet technology.

Lioness’ most intriguing revelation is that Reed’s parents are gods who are alive and well in an immortal world, and that he will get an explanation for their abandonment as long as he accepts his role as an eternal crusader for the power of good where he must defeat the evil god at this critical juncture of innovation. The thought of seeing them again makes Reed happy, and he thinks about how their absence sapped his will to be a better, more stable man.

Reed doesn’t buy into the encounter though. He sees it as a byproduct of his drug addiction. But when another aspect of the technology finds its way to his father’s homeland and attacks him, Reed is quickly thrust into the middle of an ancient battle between good and evil that rises to the realm of contemporary technology, and swirls around him, with huge ramifications for mankind if the evil god prevails. Reed must set aside anger against his father, and allow him to explain things. But will confusion over living life as an orphan be too much to overcome, and cause Reed to make the wrong decision about whom to believe in – his father who, through the turn of events, is back in his life, or the evil god who makes a diabolical play at gaining Reed’s trust with an eye towards killing him to free the path to world dominance.
