SYNOPSIS:

The ghost town of Whisper, Wyoming is a popular destination for tourists and school field trips. All the old buildings are still there, as are the ghost stories. The story of Jillian Brandt and how she was hung for the deaths of fourteen people is the most popular. Lacey is a spunky 8th grader on her first trip to the town. She laughs at the tour guides, their dress and how they speak. It's a little too hokey for her. During the tour, Lacey sees men arguing in the livery stable, men talking and women shopping in the general store, wanted posters tacked up, and a saloon full of patrons and dancing girls. When the tour ends at the bridge where the hangings took place, Lacey feels uneasy. She can't keep her eyes off of it, even as she boards the bus home again, playing with the necklace around her neck. The last thing seen as the bus passes the crumbling homestead is Lacey looking intently towards the front of the bus.
