After NASA provides an android house-bot to help out while her mother is in space, a teenage girl rebels against its efforts to replace her mom. She is determined to connect to her mother on Mars about her father’s secret health diagnosis, by overriding the robot’s programming.

SYNOPSIS:

In 2055, Chelsea Clinton is President, everyone drives electric cars because gas is $28 a gallon, and the world has become so high tech that android house-bots are common in many homes to assist working mothers with household chores and child management. When Erwin Stone brings home a surprise “Stevie” android that NASA has refurbished to help around the house during his astronaut wife’s absence, his teenage daughter Jenna rebels against the awkward robot trying to take her mother’s place and recording her every move. Stevie's attempts to please her only make her mad. When he causes an oven fire, she is sure that the robot's programming is flawed. She sets up a spy cam to see what Stevie is up to when she is at school, but discovers he is watching Wife Swap 2055 and talking in Russian into the mirror.

She tries to research Stevie through her mom's NASA computer but causes a breach. During a visit to NASA to learn more about the robot, she walks out when they talk about Stevie replacing her mom. Her boyfriend, Zach gets the robot to lie and take the blame for the breach. When Jenna's dad tells her that he will be needing surgery for a tumor on his liver, he asks her to keep it a secret from her mother in space.

Jenna excels in coding and decides to take matters in her own hands to alter the robot’s programming so she can communicate with her mother at the Mars space station. After successfully overriding the robot's programming through the NASA Live Cam to the Space Center for a brief connection, she comes to appreciate Stevie, right before she causes it to short circuit and shut down. Stevie is taken to NASA without any promise of return.

Jenna is able to arrange a private call at NASA through the Colonel in charge, and informs her mother of Erwin's prognosis. With the help of the Colonel and the Number One android programmer, they come up with a solution for a local relay from NASA's Mars connection to Stevie's LED screen, so her mother can be present at medical appointments. When Stevie is returned to the Stones to start fresh, Jenna welcomes him as a family member, willing to accept all his quirky behavior, as the conduit to her mother on Mar.
