A young ballerina lands her dream role as Clara in The Nutcracker, but as pressure mounts and her reality collapses, she begins to vanish into the fantasy world of the role she was cast to play.
SYNOPSIS:
Échappé is a psychological ballet drama about Marie Bastille, a young dancer who uses her craft as her only escape from an abusive home. After years of pleading, she’s finally allowed to attend the prestigious Berry Dance Academy, a conservatory for aspiring professionals.
While Marie lags behind her peers in technique, her emotional honesty and connection to performance earn her the lead role of Clara in the academy’s production of The Nutcracker. Supported by her mentor Joy and guest dancer Tobias, Marie throws herself into the part with total commitment— but that devotion quickly turns isolating.
As pressure mounts at home and tension grows within her company, Marie begins to lose her footing between character and self. The boundaries between rehearsal and reality blur, and the world of The Nutcracker starts to consume her.
What begins as escape becomes entrapment, and Marie must decide whether she can return to reality, or if she’s already danced too far.
