About Gamal

Gamal Batista was born in Dominican Republic and was brought to New York City by his parents at age 8. When he was young he was always fascinated with movies and wanted to go to the New York Film Academy but it was too expensive and his my parents weren't financially well, but his passion and love for filmmaking made him take it upon himself to learn and make it happen and learn every aspect of filmmaking. Once he got his first recordable device, his learning experience began and his destiny was set. Gamal is a movie buff, self-taught filmmaker and learned many things about filmmaking throughout his lifetime by just watching movies. He is also a movie collector since the VHS days, then DVDs and now Bluray movies. He has always watched the special features, behind the scenes and always listened to the Director's commentary of all his movies. All that was his film school and IT was very helpful and informative for him, but shooting with his first recordable device was the icing in the cake for him and from there it all began. Gamal Batista is a crazy, passionate Independent filmmaker that is giving it all he got, always working with what he has at the time and making his ideas and stories come to life through a camera. He uses his vacation time from his regular job to travel every year to his native land to film Dominican movies and help expand Filmmaking in the Dominican Republic. Gamal Batista is a self-thought all in one machine who doesn't give up on something that he loves passionately.
