About Shirley

I am a qualified Needlecraft and Design teacher with over 50 years experience in Arts and Crafts in schools and diverse, multi-cultural communities. I am also a published writer with Harper Collins, Yorkshire Arts Circus, small presses and selfpublished. I've also been a member and founder of various writing groups. I have written 4 plays, acted in 2, made costumes for 2 of my own and others. My main career was in teaching but I've also been very active in Community work having managed over 70 organisations in vaious roles of secretary, treasurer and chair. I am a visual artist have made everything from Christening gowns to shrouds. I love dressing up and have fun with costumes. I also enjoy singing though musical I started off as a pianist and organist. I'm usually found singing karaoke in pubs and community centre singing live on occasions.
