SPELLBOUND
By Stephanie Bertoni

GENRE: Independent
LOGLINE:

Two contentious neighbors—young women with vastly different approaches to life—become fast friends and form a “wo-mance” when they realize that their emotional and financial struggles aren’t that different, but the new friendship doesn’t solve the old problems so they resort to conjuring a Wiccan goddess using a spell, and a magic candle, binding them in more profound ways than they were ever expecting.

SYNOPSIS:

Crushed by student loan debt and the needs of an ailing father, Lily juggles several

jobs and prepares her Thesis for her master’s degree all while trying to land her dream career and find a

way to get her dad a much-needed liver transplant. Cash-strapped and soon-to-be-divorced, Jackie

raises her young son, Chase, and takes increasingly risky gigs as a stripper to keep the heat on.

Contentious neighbors from the start, Lily and Jackie warm to each other as they see one another

struggling from afar. After Lily helps Jackie stop Chase from running out into the street as a car speeds

by, the two decide to support each other emotionally and form a “wo-mance.” This, however, doesn’t

pay the bills and, despite their hustle, Lily and Jackie remain desperate. Together, the two decide to use

a magic candle and perform a Wiccan spell—conjuring an Italian goddess. Lightning strikes the candle

pre-ritual, igniting the flame and sealing their fate. Expecting all their wishes to be granted, Lily and

Jackie are stunned when things only seem to get worse. When Jackie’s mother dies from a brain

aneurysm and Lily’s father benefits from receiving her liver, cracks form in their friendship. Lily tries

to blow out the candle’s flame, releasing them from each other, but it cannot be extinguished. As they

literally move apart because of Lily’s eviction, the two women are forced to question if they want to

remain linked, or if they should try to break the spell that binds them in this universe—and the next…

Hello Stephanie, I love your concepts! Just another humble suggestion for the logline, to make it shorter. "After two contentious young women start a "wo-mance", they resort to conjuring a Wiccan goddess to solve old problems, but such action bind them in more profound ways than they could ever expect."
