About Facundo

I noticed I have dyslexia a lot of years ago... When teachers used to call us lazies. It was in the Language class. 1996. The teacher asked us to form groups to do an exercise: write a story using the beginning, development, and end technic we studied a moment ago. Write?! In group?! They will hate me; I’m so bad at writing... I thought. I was ten. I hated to read, and my punctuation was painful. But I loved to watch movies... all the time, and in films they told some kind of story, right? So, guys! I said. What if we made a movie instead of writing a story?

At that moment, my parents had a little cable television production company, so I had at home a mini stage and a VHS edit room. Can some friends come this Saturday to shoot a film? I asked that night at dinner. ...Sure... they said. So next Saturday, 12 children invaded my home carrying bags full of costumes. We were ready to shoot, but... Where is the story? my parents asked us... Come on! We only want to jam around for God sake! But they have a better idea. They told us we had two options. They will take the camera out and start to film our childish game or “We can spend the next nine months making a real film during the weekends.” So that was what we did. Every two weeks, we spent three months making the screenplay, three months shooting the story, and three more editing it. After the release at Centro Cultural Recoleta in Buenos Aires, 70% of the children who made “Falso ecubrimiento” knew that they would dedicate their life to cinema.

But I rebel against my destiny when the youth came for me. The terror of being rejected or good enough forced me to look in another direction. I chose Philosophy as a way to still be in touch with writing but protecting myself, but in the first month I have two encounters. The first one was Esthetics taught by Fernando Castro Flores, and the second one was my creative partner and wife for more than twelve years, Carolina Corvillo. She was studying Philosophy for the same reason I was: fear.

Hopefully, we understood that things you don’t do die with you, so we start to shoot short films by ourselves every weekend: we did cheap science fiction, thriller, horror, comedy, drama... And after nine years of practice, we launch a crowdfunding asking for 7.000€ to make “Dentro,” the story of a sculptor who abducts the beauty of his model. We finally released it at the Spanish Film Academy, giving thanks to all the mentors and colleagues we meet in our first years in the Spanish film industry: Alejandro Lázaro, Ismael Issa, Fede Pajaro, Ignacio Falcón and Cecilio Chaves among others.

Carolina and I finished our personal relation in 2019, giving each other the sense that a story is a good that has an end.
