THE FIRE INSIDE
By Nadine Ezra

GENRE: Drama
LOGLINE: How far will one man go to save his boyhood dream?

SYNOPSIS:

Inspired by true life events, as told in the autobiography A Shattered Dream by John Scully When he was a boy, desperately poor and perpetually hungry, DAIGH DELANEY dreamed of nothing more than growing up to own his own store. After years of hard work and sacrifice, he returns, with his family, to his native Ireland to live out that dream. But dreams and reality are often very different things. This poor country boy finds himself in a city ruled by crime, police corruption, and a desperate political movement demanding things be set right, no matter the cost. Caught in the middle, he will risk his family, and his boyhood dream, to fight for what he believes is rightfully his. How far will he go? And will he be able to live with himself when it's all over? Set in 1960's Ireland, a time of social and political unrest, A Fire Inside tells the story of one man's struggle to live out his dream, and not lose himself in the process.

Nadine, welcome to stage 32. I like this idea, fresh and solid. I'd like to see a picture set in Ireland in the 60's, not something you see everyday. Drama is what I write as well. How's the script coming along?

Dominic, thanks for the welcome! Glad you like the idea. It's something I've been working on for something like 6 or 7 years now. It's become a real labor of love. It was a finalist in a screenplay competition and was optioned for a time but it seems like they just sat on it. now that the option is out I've started revising it and building a new draft. I'm hoping that freshening it up a bit will help generate some interest. And you? Are you working on anything currently?
