About Ana

na Graham is Artistic Director and founder of Por Piedad Teatro where she has developed most of her career. She studied Drama in Mexico City. As director: The Duchamp Syndrome by Antonio Vega premiered at the M1 Singapore Fringe Festival 2015, The End by Samuel Beckett co-produced by the Mexican Institute for the fine Arts and A Special Day by Ettore Scola co-produced by New York’s Play Company ay Off-Broadway 59E59 Theaters. Last year she collaborated in New York with The Play Company to co-produce HECHO EN MEXICO, a series of public reading of Mexican contemporary playwright in English. For HECHO EN MEXICO she translated and directed Idiots Contemplating the Snow by Alejandro Ricaño and co-translated I hate Fucking Mexicans by Luis Enrique Gutiérrez Ortiz Monasterio, which was later produced at The Flea Theatre. Her work as actress, translator and costume designer for Por Piedad Teatro include: A Special Day by Ettore Scola. In Mexico City: The Golden Dragon by Roland Schimmlpfening, Ladies and Gents, by Paul Walker, Playing the Victim, by the Presnyakov Brothers, Psychosis 4.48 by Sarah Kane, for which she was nominated Best Actress by the Mexican Theatre Press Board APT, The Country by Martin Crimp, Some Explicit Polaroids by Mark Ravenhill, for which she was nominated Best Supporting Actress by the APT, Crave and Blasted, also by Sarah Kane and for which she was awarded as Best Actress and Best Translator by the APT, Grace and Glory by Tom Ziegler, for which she was awarded as Best Young Actress by APT, and Interiors by Woody Allen. Outside Por Piedad Teatro she is remembered for Hedda Gabler by Hernik Ibsen, Equss by Peter Shaffer and Sexual Perversity in Chicago by David Mamet. In film she starred in Mezcal, a film by Ignacio Ortiz, for which she was nominated to an Ariel (Mexico’s Film Academy Awards) as Best Actress, and Cuento de Hadas para Dormir Cocodrilos. Both films were awarded with the Gold Ariel for Best Film. In 2003 she received the annual grant for preforming artist from Mexico’s National Found for the Arts. In 2011 Ana was appointed as Tourism ambassador by Mexico’s government in recognition of her contribution to Mexican art and culture. In 2013 Ana is a fellow of the International Society for the performing Arts (ISPA) Latin American Heritage Program.
