Managing Expectations

This is a first. I auditioned for a day player role this morning--self-tape. Later today, production announced a change in venue. The shoot will not take place in Los Angeles. It is moving to Atlanta. This means all the work I put into my audition is out the window. They will hire an Atlanta local hire. Sometimes you just have to say, "Oh well... I did my best."

Matthew Gross, it’s such a real and frustrating part of the process that doesn’t get talked about enough. You showed up, did the work, and put your best into that self-tape, and even though the outcome changed beyond your control, none of that effort was wasted.

Every audition sharpens your skills, builds your discipline, and keeps you present in the craft. It’s disappointing when logistics override talent, but your attitude; “Oh well… I did my best”, is exactly the kind of mindset that will carry you through the ups and downs of this industry.
