My agent suggested that my 7 character, 7 minute Demo Reel was too long. I have spoken to Casting Directors before that prefer a reel they can Fast Forward through to see multiple scenes, but he suggested I put another Highlight Reel together lasting about 3 minutes 'just in case'. I would have thought that the more scenes and characters I could showcase, the better, as well as showing some sense of the scene that I am in to - once again - graphically show how i do what I do. Apparently not. So, her's my new highlight reel, featuring 4 characters in 3 minutes. If you would like to see the full length effort, it is on the Actor tab. I would love everyone's thoughts, comments and questions. www.stevejames.ca
Zedrick, thanks for the view and the comment. I have received good feedback from CD's ref an 'ongoing reel', where thy can speed thru scenes to find what they want, but I do understand your POV. Good tip about Actor's access - I will have to change things over - thanks for the reminder. I am tired of hearing that CD's are busy - yes! They should be busy finding the right actor for the role, and they have to 'kiss a lot of frogs......' as the old saying goes. I'm convinced that - up here - it starts with age range, and then they just mass e-mail Agents to fill that - I'm not sure that anyone is trying to find 'the one' outside of Directors.
Unfortunately, NY casting directors prefer 1 min...maybe 1.5 mins max. Pick your BEST stuff!!! Don't worry about how many characters. It looks like your resume will speak for itself!!! :)
(Laughs)..and I'm told that casting Directors are 'too busy' to look at a Resume! Many thanks, Randa - I feel better now!
OK, I have cut this down, thanks for your notes and comments. It's now under 3.00 mins. You can check it here: www.stevejames.ca
