Anything Goes : Day Jobs by G.R. Barnett

Day Jobs

So, does anybody still have that soul-shattering day job they're working at while they make their dream come true? Just wondering!

I thought most actors and actresses are waiters and waitresses till they get things going. Or is that a stereotype? Personally, I think they should be "viral bloggers" with a pre-monetized blog, and blog about acting.

LOL it's not just limited to actors and actresses! Other filmmakers have to pay bills too. Oh vlogging without monetization would suck, I would think. But for animation people on youtube its basically the same thing. Youtube's just not built for animation channels, at least not in my experience. Animation takes way longer than vlogging.

Oh god yes! I'm in Banking (dealing with International Payments, Trade & Finance) and while it pays the bills and affords me a life I can pay my way in it's not my forte. I like my day job but it's not my passion. My passion is writing and you can imagine how hard a market that is to break into.

Oh yes. The dilemma is, they always say studios want you to have an agent to submit, but most agents will not even look at you unless you've already been hired. It's a cache-22 and I could cry :(

Lana, if I had your job, assuming I didn't have to focus TOO much mental energy into it, I'd probably think up a story involving etrade theft or espionage or something. Maybe a computer programmer designs a banking program that steals fractions of a penny off of every transaction. Think of that. The numbers round up, no one misses less than a penny. Over the course of time. billions of transactions...you do the math. Of course, in the best case scenario I'd have the script completed and sold before I got fired for day dreaming on the job.

Patrick, I have ideas already around that and I have a title for the book too for when I get round to writing it. I'm working on a project right now (in between work and eating and sleeping) which is about half done and there will be more books in that series to follow. So many ideas so little time as work gets in the way

Patrick Freeman

Ye, life is what happens while you're busy making other plans. Don't let anyone at work know what your story is about or they might think you're planning something for real. :)

I like the John Lennon quote Patrick! Oh no, I never reveal what my ideas are for stories so I will be tight lipped on that one and oh so typically British lol!

I just remembered an old movie where a guy works at the Federal Reserve Bank and all day long day dreams about robbing the place. Then someone comes in who can read minds. It's pretty funny. But I can't remember where I saw it or what it was called.
