Casting

So I have a script that is MOS. During a casting call do I just have the actors come in and do a monologue and Direct them from there? Or how would I approach it? Also If I need voice actors is that different?

Ryan McCoy

Interesting question...I just had the idea...maybe you could “voice audition”, basically have whomever submits send you an audio file of them reading whatever parts you’d like to hear from your script? Just a thought!

M-O-S derives from early directors from Germany who would say, "We shoot this mit out sound (no sync sound)." I take your post to mean the film will be shot MOS, but it's a bit unclear. Scripts are not MOS, only without dialogue either on-camera or VO. Therefore, the following is a guess.

Is your script dialogue-less and VO only. A complete Silent without even music or sound effects?

If VO, then as Ryan suggests. If dialogue-less, but still featuring on-camera talent, then a silent audition where they react visually to some pre-recorded VO, or to your direction, i.e. you're peeved, you're amused, you just spotted the man who killed your mother, etc. What exactly will the talent be doing in the film?

Aalijah - I'm looking for a short short non dialog script right now. Something with a runtime <5 min. Why don't you post it on your Profile page?

I mistyped that post. There is only a few lines and the rest is sound design driven.

I know how greasy keyboards can get.

Then a standard audition.

Good for you Doug Nelson
