As filmmakers is slapstick dead? I wonder if other writers feel slapstick is timeless or dated? I am leaning towards dated. Is anybody making this stuff?
The best moment in Play It Again Sam is slapstick (with the LP) and there's plenty of sight gags in most mainstream comedy from 30 Rock & Curb through to Adam Sandler, The Hangover etc. etc. Even Hulk's punch to Thor in Avengers was classic slapstick. Do it. Just keep it fresh.
Strict slapstick, yes, it's from another era. Physical comedy, no, as long as it is fresh and doesn't mug for the camera.
