Someone just asked me to watch Mandalorian , entire series was produced using real time virtual production and I was curious
For me who is doing linear production this opens up can of opportunities as I am stuck with quasi state of how process is executed
Any thoughts...

There's good articles on "how they did this" ... definitely Google Mandalorian and virtual production.. While virtual production is amazing (and pretty cool!) there's still a cost associated with it: stage rental (this may or may not included the panels), cameras, lighting, and having some powerful computers present to 'drive' everything...

Cost is key factor as I assume we can shoot different environments at same studio ..planning to do a small film on it to understand total costs factoring all variables ..of course systems are key

Virtual studios are popping up all over the country, Mukesh Radha Krishna Tak. And while you are better able to control the environment, the cost savings are offset by the cost of using the assets involved. But that depends on the studio you visit. Some virtual studios are even incorporating AI to generate background scenery. Even though, "The Mandalorian" has been out for while, the use of virtual studios is still in the beginning stages. Worth checking out.

Yes AI is used in unreal engine 5 , I am giving a try by producing a 5 min short film for learning . I am from Mumbai and expect tech is cheaper here in India ... Let's see

Mukesh Radha Krishna Tak - if you do that, please return to this post and let us know that you'll share it in the lounge. We'd love to see that.

It's quite amazing how VFX team can add the world. There are some tricks to sometimes combine the real set and virtual set to make sure it's seamless...no pun intended. I just spoke with someone who said even on the updated "Saved by the Bell" they used a lot of virtual worlds. It's like someone said, the budget and the expertise to make it as real as possible.

If you look at simple drama ( Big Bang Types) or Music Videos actually you don't need to invest in VFX , these days ViStudios already have what they call asset s in their bank to be used with Unreal Engine , in fact one can end up saving 25-30% on production costs @Xochiblymyer I am working on a simple production to find it out and will share experience ... My engineering in computer science is really helping me here
