Bio: Akira Komatsu, an established Los Angeles-based film composer and guitarist, has years of professional experience recording, producing and composing for top TV commercial and promos in Japan including JASRAC (Japanese Society got Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers), Bandai Co., Ltd. (the world’s third-largest producer of toys in 2008 after Mattel and Hasbro), and a video installation at Japan Pavilion at Shanghai Expo 2010.
He writes music, composes, arranges, orchestrates, mixes and masters alone as a one-man package, while delivering highest quality in all departments. He released a music library album “Music Box Ghost” from FlipperMusic in Italy, “Somber Piano” from Counter Communications and also has a contract with DAMusic, EpitomeMusic, Sounddogs, AudioSprax and his own library (over 150 music cues total). His music has been licensed in many TV and radio programs including “America’s Book of Secrets” on the History Channel (viewed by 96 million American households in the US, and more in Austria, Germany, Japan, Romania, United Kingdom, Brazil, Mexico and beyond). He scored over 30 short and feature films through his career both in the US and Japan including “Junk DNA” which David Bartrett, a Primetime Emmy nominee, which premiered in 2021 at the Santa Clarita International Film Festival.
As a guitarist, he has joined numerous projects (recording and live), accompanying singers and comedy theaters, Akira also played with top class musicians as Todd Hunter (Dionne Warwick), Haeun You (Sabrina Carpenter), etc. He has been one of a lead guitar player in Imre Czomba’s project called Quarantine Music Chain in 2020, bringing dedication, integrity, and pure talent to the project with 100 musician from sixteen countries include Kenny G, Michael Boddicker, Alphonso Johnson (Weather Report, Santana), Ed Calle (Gloria Estefan, Michael Bolton), Richie Garcia (Phill Collins band), Sara Andon, Andrew Kesler (Accent), Michael O'Neill (Barbra Streisand band). Among those world-class musicians, he played critical role as a very first guitarist leading the starting section of the truly diverse and exciting musical relay.
He studied composition with Penka Schweiger, Norman Ludwin, music licensing with Ali Herstand, Cathy Heller, jazz guitar with Jeff Richman, Jinshi Ozaki, Peter Mezza, Toshiki Nunokawa. He graduated from Musicians Institute Hollywood with Human Relation Award and taught at its Tokyo Japan division after his graduation.
