What film professionals can learn from A24's business model

A24 seems to be in vogue on the Stage32 platform at the moment.

Here's an article from the wonderful Stephen Follows. Take notes now y'all. And yes, who wouldn't love one of their film to be picked up by A24?

"It is easy to think of A24 as the exception that proves the rule, a studio that somehow managed to turn strange, specific, often deeply personal films into box office hits, critical favourites and cultural phenomena.

But behind the mystique is something more grounded. They have made a set of repeatable, strategic choices."

It's easy I suppose to think that this once distribution company and now studio, just pluck things outta the hat. Maybe that's a sign of someone/something that's good at their job. They make it look so easy, so simple. Those who work with graze, often make it seem that way.

So, what have been your favourite A24 film, or your favourite marketing campaign?

Maurice Vaughan

My favorite A24 film is Everything Everywhere All at Once, Geoff Hall. A24 probably did a creative marketing campaign for the movie, but I don't remember seeing it (I was probably busy). I did see a trailer though, and it sold me on the film.

William Joseph Hill

Great article, Geoff Hall ! I'd have to say that A24 is leading the industry right now as far as innovative projects and marketing goes. And I also loved EEAO as Maurice mentioned -- I'm big on kung fu action & sci fi!

William Joseph Hill thank you, William. I like the way the article started, because Stephen Follows is right, there is a kind of A24 mystique about their work.

“But behind the mystique is something more grounded. They have made a set of repeatable, strategic choices.” I like these ‘strategic choices’.
